TRACKING YOUR WEIGHT MATHEMATICALLY

Healthy lifestyle begins from taking small and negligible measures such as tracking weight gain or loss. Excessive weight gain can lead to terminal conditions that can affect someone’s life negatively. Continuous weight loss that cannot be accounted for is also an indicator that something is wrong with your health. Weight is key when it comes to healthy living. Body mass index (BMI) is a calculation based how your body structure appears in relation to height and mass. A person’s height and mass correlates for overall body fitness. Weight gain is normally attributed to diet taken by an individual. Junk foods are great contributors to weight gain. Regular uptake of such foods is not healthy at all. Unaccountable weight loss can be due to stress or health condition that has not been diagnosed yet.

Tracking your weight mathematically

Changes in body weight can be physically observed before taking bold steps to measure weight. When someone adds or loses weight, his or her body structure tells it all. Weight loss is accompanied with thinness while weight gain broadens the body. When these red flags manifest in your health, you need to measure your weight and consult a doctor to determine the possible causes. Dire situation needs a serious medical attention. Do not take it for granted as it may lead to conditions that can be difficult to reverse.  Excessive weight gain when not acted upon earlier leads to obesity that is a threat to a person’s health. Excessive weight loss is also not good for the health as it may be an early sign of looming medical condition.

Those who are mindful of their weight starts from living a healthy lifestyle. Healthy lifestyle entails food you eat, drinks you consume and physical exercises you engage in. Waking up in the morning to take your breakfast that is full of sausages, boiled eggs and toasted loaves of bread sounds yummy but has tremendous impacts in your life. At work, consuming bars of chocolates as you proceed with your normal routine keeps your day enjoyable. At lunchtime, eating your favourite meal makes you jovial. Fried chicken and a plate of chips can do. When relaxing in the restaurant, a glass of yoghurt keeps you busy as you approach the working hours. Life seems not only enjoyable but also entertaining. Your supper is also composed fried lean meat and samosa. It does not come to your attention that daily uptake of fatty foods without doing exercises is disastrous to your health. Sitting comfortably in the office gives room for accumulation of fats in the body. There is no oxidization of those fats into energy. That is why it is advisable to do exercise regularly. Those who are used to taking drinks like beer are also prone to excessive weight gain. Beer has many calories. Therefore, it is not supposed to be taken excessively. Those who take strong whisky and spirits are likely to experience weight loss especially when they do not eat properly. These drinks deplete fats that accumulate in the body. When taken, the body requires a lot of energy to maintain its normal functions. Smoking excessively affects vital body organs resulting into loss in body weight.

Tracking your body weight involves checking your body outlook and measuring your weight regularly. This is supposed to be recorded in a book to know the span of the change. This span can be used to approximate changes within the body in the coming days. This strategy requires a keen self-assessment. Any slight change in the body needs to be taken into consideration. This is a personal decision. A typical example of homebased healthcare.

If you have records of changes in your body weight, you can use mathematical concepts of rates and proportions to make estimation on the rate at which your weight increases based on the food you have been eating lately. For instance, if your weight has increased from 50 kilograms to 60 kilograms within a period of two months after eating sixteen chicken wings daily. Using this data holding other factors contributing to weight gain constant, you can approximate your weight gain if you eat thirty-two chicken wings daily for two months as follows:

1.      Chicken wings consumed in a day     Total consumption days      Weight gain

                   16                                                        60                            (60 – 50) 10

                   32                                                        60                                   ?

          = (32 ÷ 16) ÷ 10 = 20 kg

Weight gain will be approximately 20 kg. Therefore, your weight will be 80 kg calculated as follows:

Approximated weight = Weight gain + Current weight = 20 + 60 = 80 kg. The rate at which your weight increases can help you in approximating your future weight. This concept and analysis can also be applied to situations where a person is shedding off weight for example during slimming period.

Usage of proportions and rates in estimating weight gain or loss incorporates many assumptions. Weight cannot linearly increase with uptake of junk foods only. Others factors also contribute to weight gain. However, it can still be used to predict trajectory of weight gain or loss.
