Taking a bathe can be very traumatic during cold weather especially when you do not have hot water system in the house. Taking a cold bathe is not easy during cold season. Many people prefer taking a hot shower when weather is completely unfavourable. Here, we are going to learn how automated steam bathe system works.
Automated steam bathe system consists of reservoir tank, hot water tank, heater, timer circuit, meter reader and microcontroller. Reservoir tank is the main tank that stores water used to run the entire system. The capacity of the tank depends on the number of units it is going to serve. The more the apartments to be served, the larger the capacity of the reservoir tank. Hot water tank is where cold water from the reservoir tank is heated. The extent or degree of heating depends on the choices made by occupants of the apartment in question. It can be heated to produce steam or normal hot water. This tank is fitted with water heater that stirs up the heating process. Microcontroller connects the reservoir tank, hot water tank and the heater to the cellphone of the house occupants electronically. It coordinates all the functions of the system as directed by the user via his or her cellphone. The system has a control panel fitted on the entrance to the bathroom. This panel has provisions for requesting hot water or steam. It is also connected to timer circuit. Timer circuit is used to set the time the shower will be taken. An alarm is part and parcel of the timer circuit. It plays a crucial role in notifying the apartment occupant when his or her bathe is ready. The hot water or steam exits through the nozzle fixed in the bathroom or bathtub. Meter reader is situated in the inlet of hot water tank to regulate the amount of cold water entering the tank as directed by the user.
The system can be controlled remotely using a cellphone or physically using control panel located on the entrance to the bathroom. On the control panel, there are features on the dashboard for requesting hot water or steam bath based on the amount of water to be used. When the user requests for a bathe of his or her choice, he or she will be asked to enter the amount of water needed. After that, he or she will set the time he or she wants to take the shower. Everything is possible by the help of microcontroller. Microcontroller alerts the alarm system on the time the shower will be taken. When it reaches the set time, the alarm circuit turns on the alarm alerting the user that everything is ready. When the amount of water has been set, the microcontroller updates the meter reader on the amount of cold water allowed to enter the hot water tank. The meter reader will automatically close the water inlet when the level reaches its set peak. On entering the bathroom, you can control the bathe using on and off buttons. The on button opens the nozzle allowing the steam or hot water to exit. The off button closes the nozzle when the steam or hot water is not needed. User preferences dictate how the heater heats up the water. If steam bathe is preferred, the water is heated beyond the boiling point to provide it in abundance. For warm water bathe, the water is heated according to the set temperature. Instances where cold bathe is needed, the heater is turned off and the water is allowed to flow as it is. The user’s cellphone has an app that controls the system. The app has a user friendly interface with necessary features for controlling the system. You can set the time for bathing, the temperature of water for warm bathe and turn on or off the system. It also has an alarm system that notifies the user when the bathing time has reached.
Advantages of this system are as follows:
- It is reliable. The system notifies the user when his or her steam or hot water bathe is ready. This is done by the alarm system incorporated within the automated steam bathe system. The installed app turns on the alarm in the user’s cellphone when the bathing time reaches.
- The system is automated making it easy to control and monitor. The user can get notified when his or her bathe is ready via the cellphone.
- The system allows the user to set the temperature at which water is heated. It works based on the users’ preferences.
Disadvantages of this system are as follows:
- It is expensive. The system is expensive to install as it requires advanced technology. A lot of money is used to erect the system.
- Power failures can adversely affect the entire system specifically when there is no back up power supply. The steam or hot water outlet can only be turned on or off when there is power.
This system is more reliable and efficient compared to normal hot water system as the user can set the temperature of water he or she needs for a bathe. The user also gets notification when the bathe is ready. It can also be operated remotely.
